Sensō-Ji (金龍 山 浅 草 寺) is a Buddhist temple located in Asakusa in Tokyo.

It is the oldest temple in Tokyo and one of the most important.

It is associated with the Tendai Buddhist sect, of which it became independent after World War II.

The temple is dedicated to Kannon Bodhisattva. According to legend, the statue of Kannon was found on the Sumida River by two fishermen. The head of the village, Hajino Nakamoto, recognized the sanctity of the statue and remodeled his own house in a small temple for the inhabitants of Asakusa.

In the year 645, the temple was founded. During World War II the temple was bombed and destroyed, its reconstruction was a symbol of peace and rebirth of the Japanese people.
