Kobe

Kobe (神 戸) is the capital of Hyogo Prefecture and one of the ten largest cities in Japan. Located between the sea and the Rokko mountain range, Kobe is also considered one of the most attractive cities in Japan. Kobe has been an important port city for many centuries. Its port was among the first to be opened to foreign trade in the nineteenth century, next to the ports of Yokohama, Nagasaki, Hakodate and Niigata.

Kobe Beef

Kobe Beef is a delicate Japanese delicacy and probably the best-known regional food in Japan. It is one of several Wagyu breeds, or Japanese cattle, which are bred all over the country and often associated with the area where they are bred.

Shin-Kobe Ropeway

Shin-Kobe Ropeway (新 神 戸 ロ ー プ ウ ェ ー) is one of three services that elevate tourists on the southern slopes of the Rokko mountain range. The cable car leaves from near the Shin-Kobe station, the station of Shinkansen of Kobe. As it climbs, it passes through Nunobiki Waterfall and Nunobiki Herb Garden, providing a beautiful aerial view of both.

Arima Onsen

Arima Onsen (有 馬 温泉) is a famous spa town on the outskirts of Kobe city, but on the opposite side of Mount Rokko from the center of the city. The city lies in a natural mountain environment, but is close enough for residents of Kobe and Osaka, such as an easy and popular day trip or a weekend getaway.

Kobe Harborland

Kobe Harborland is a shopping and entertainment district between JR Kobe station and Kobe port area. The district offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and other amusements, which, coupled with the romantic atmosphere of the night, have made it a popular spot for couples and tourists alike.

Sorakuen Garden

Sorakuen is a traditional Japanese landscaped garden in the center of Kobe. The garden used to be part of the residence of Kodera Kenkichi, a former mayor of Kobe, but was opened to the public in 1941.

Nankinmachi

Nankinmachi (南京 町) is a compact Chinatown in the center of Kobe and a center of the Chinese community in the Kansai region. The area was developed by Chinese merchants who settled near Kobe Port after the port was opened to foreign trade in 1868. As Chinatown developed, it became known as Nankinmachi after Nanjing, the former Chinese capital.
